Turner & Australia
J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851) is one of the masters of British Romantic art,
whose visions of awe-inspiring landscape transformed the way we
experience the epic power and beauty of nature.
In the two centuries since Turner rose to prominence, his art has
continued to have an extraordinary influence on the way we see landscape
- especially in Australia, where he has been revered by generations of
artists from the 1820's through to the present day. Australia, in many
ways, has provided a stage for Turner's vision in ways that the master
himself could never have imagined.
Turner & Australia is the first exhibition ever to showcase
the extraordinary vitality of Turner's art alongside the heroes of the
Australian landscape art tradition that he helped to inspire. This
unique and groundbreaking exhibition draws together original artworks by
some of Australia's most loved artists, including Frederick McCubbin,
Arthur Streeton, Tom Roberts, Clarice Beckett, Lloyd Rees, and countless
others, alongside original artworks by Turner himself.
Prepare to be dazzled as this unforgettable exhibition leads you on a
journey through the heart of Australian art, framed within the iconic
spectacle of Turner himself, whose legacy continues to shape our
experience of nature both here and around the world.
